BEIJING, China — How can logistics companies accelerate the transition to zero-emission fleets? At the 16th International Transport Technology and Equipment Expo on September 22, GWM Commercial Vehicles teamed up with JD Logistics to showcase a zero-carbon express delivery demonstration project — offering the industry a practical blueprint for green transformation.

As China’s only professional international transport expo hosted by the Ministry of Transport, the event highlights cutting-edge technologies and innovations in the sector. The joint zero-carbon initiative underscores how China’s next-generation new-energy heavy-duty trucks, with advancements in electrification and intelligent systems, are already reshaping express delivery operations.
The centerpiece, the Smart Truck GE573 pure-electric heavy-duty truck, features a 573.9 kWh short-blade battery and represents three years of forward-engineered R&D specifically for 500 km secondary long-haul delivery routes. Operating on multiple routes across the Yangtze River Delta — including Hangzhou, Suzhou, Ningbo, and Jinhua — the GE573 demonstrates the “4+” advantages:

More: Lightweight full-vehicle design with low-mounted battery packs increases payload capacity.Faster: Proprietary high-efficiency 3-in-1 e-axle and dual independent fast-charging guns improve speed and turnaround.Better: Spacious intelligent cockpit powered by the 8155 chip, along with comfort and smart features, enhances the driving experience.Economical: Nine-in-one power domain controller and aerodynamic design reduce energy consumption, lowering operational costs.
To date, the GE573 has logged over 50,000 km across multiple JD Logistics routes. Energy consumption ranges from 105 to 110 kWh per 100 km, with social-station fast charging achieving over 250 kW per vehicle per hour. Operating costs drop to just 1-1.1 yuan per kilometer, cutting fuel expenses by 40-50% compared with diesel trucks. The project has also prevented over 35,000 tons of carbon emissions, highlighting both environmental and economic benefits.

As new-energy technology advances and the logistics sector continues to evolve, zero-emission fleets are becoming an inevitable trend. The GWM–JD Logistics project not only serves as a model for China’s green logistics transformation but also offers valuable insights and best practices for sustainable transport worldwide.
Looking ahead, the two companies plan to deepen collaboration, leveraging their strengths in technology innovation, resource integration, and market operations. Together, they aim to explore more low-carbon, high-efficiency logistics solutions, foster industry-wide collaboration, and build a green, smart, and efficient logistics ecosystem — contributing to global carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
